How My Materials are Recycled

Plastics

Plastics are collected from a variety of industrial based businesses from Metro Vancouver and western Canada.

Film & Rigid plastics are first collected loosely or baled in one of our compactor trucks, bins or 5-ton trucks. They are then brought back to our facility where the truck is dumped into a bunker. Westcoast then hand sorts the material to ensure that we get the best quality bales possible. Next, the material is shipped to a secondary processor where the bales are broken open, film is washed then shredded. After that, the plastic is pellatized and sold to manufacturers where they may use the recycled plastic pellets for new products.

Plastic products made from recycled film include decking, recycled bags, some pipe, pots and park benches.

Cardboard and Paper

Cardboard and Paper collected from a variety of industrial based businesses from Metro Vancouver and western Canada.

Fiber products are first collected loosely or baled and is transported in bins or 5-ton trucks. The material is then brought back to our facility where the truck is dumped into specified bunker. The production team then bales the cardboard to be transported to secondary processors.

Once the material is as the secondary processors, we start the pulping process. It begins with the cardboard and paper being shredded so that it breaks down the fibers in tiny pieces. A slurry substance is then made by using a combination of water and chemicals to break it down.

Cardboard and paper products are recycled right back into cardboard and paper products.

Ferrous and Nonferrous Metals

Metal collected from a variety of industrial based businesses from Metro Vancouver and western Canada.

Metals are first collected loosely and is transported in bins or 5-ton or roll-off trucks. The material is then brought back to our facility where it may need be sorted. Once the metals have been sorted it is then ready to be sent to a secondary processing facility.

Once at that facility the material is crushed and shredded into small pieces. These pieces are then melted down and formed into ingots.

Clean Wood & Pallets

Clean wood and pallets are collected from a variety of industrial based businesses from Metro Vancouver and western Canada.

Wood pallets and clean wood is brought back to our facility in a van truck where they are sorted. The good pallets are re-used while the bad ones get trans-loaded into a bin to be sent to a secondary processor with the clean wood. Once at the secondary processors where it is chipped to be used in playgrounds or composting.

Organics

Organics are collected from a variety of industrial based businesses from Metro Vancouver and western Canada.

The green waste is first collected in toter bins and compostable friendly bags. It is then loaded into a compactor truck where it is sent to a secondary processor to be broken down even further.

There are several ways to recycle green waste. Everything from collecting gasses from the decomposing process to feeding bug larva that can be harvested for their protein.
